This novel continues the story of Cilka which began in "The Tattooist of Auschwitz." Cilka survives to see Auschwitz liberated, only to be sent to a Soviet camp in the frozen tundra of northern Russia for allegedly helping the Nazis. Cilka uses her quick wit and beauty to care for her fellow prisoners, whom she considers friends. The story is fast paced and there are moments that are difficult to read as the author depicts the inhumane treatment and living conditions of the women in the Soviet camp.

I have to say that I actually enjoyed this story more then "The Tattooist of Auschwitz," because while many of us are familiar with Auschwitz and the Nazi concentration camps, this was my first time reading about one of the Soviet camps.
