After reading the Tattoist of Auschwitz, I cannot wait to get my hands on Morris' latest book. I have read many Holocaust stories and like the idea of a book that looks at "after" the war and how a prisoner of a camp can go on to become a criminal after the war. The setting of Siberia is so harsh and I know that will add to the story's intensity. Reading chapter 1 was painful to think of someone being convicted of a "crime" that they had no control over, it was done to survive. The author does a great job of helping the reader understand the pain that Cilka encounters, the despair, and the hardship. This is history I am unfamiliar with and I know it will propel me to do a little research as I am reading the story.
