To say that I loved this book- is an understatement. It had been on my shelf for awhile and finally got around to picking it up. After chapter three I was unable to put it down.
I was captivated by the this entire story. To survive the Holocaust, only to be sent to jail for what she did to simply stay alive is amazing.
The story of Cilka is sad and yet triumphant. She has managed to stay alive through the most horrific events, and still wants to do good in this world.
From being captured by Nazi’s at the age of 16- only to have her time in a concentration camp lead her to being imprisoned in Siberia, Cilka still wants to help others.
She stays true to herself by doing what needs to be done, but also stealing food and guiding those around her.
The incredibly detailed writing puts you right there with Cilka in the hut, and in the hospital. I would suggest this book to everyone.
