"She is just surviving, Cilka has often thought. There is no one way to do it."

Cilka's Journey is the sequel to one of my all-time favourite books, The Tattooist of Auschwitz. I love both of these books with all of my heart! That is all that I have to say about the book. Just read them both, if you haven't already!!

The first book talks about the lives of the prisoners in one of Hitler's biggest concentration camps - Auschwitz. The second one talks about Vorkuta Gulag under Stalin.

The Vorkuta Gulag was one of the largest camps in the GULAG system with 73,000 prisoners at its peak in 1951, containing Soviet and foreign prisoners including prisoners of war, dissidents, political prisoners ("enemies of the state") and common criminals who were used as forced labour in the coal mining works.

Hitler is known for his concentration camps and mass murder of Jews and his gas chambers. But not many of us know about the Gulags. In my opinion, the Gulag system was even worse because prisoners were left to die due to overwork and starvation. In short, Stalin let hunger and the winter do his job for him.

For those of you who did not know about the Gulag system, do read up about it, especially the Vorkuta Gulag camp.

This book was a complete emotional roller coaster. It broke my heart but left me feeling so content with life. I highly recommend this one to everyone!
