The first half of the book was interesting but the last half was not interesting for me and that is because the last half of the book was so rushed and all over the place. The last half had everything happening so quickly, there was no time to get emotionally involved.

Everyone knows, and the author makes it very clear in the beginning, that Cilka’s story is told only by witness accounts and true events, this is not a story of exactly what Cilka experienced or felt because the author did not speak to Cilka herself for this book. Knowing that, I think that is why I had such a hard time connecting with this book on an emotional level. I would have preferred to read Cilka’s story told in her words, her own feelings and what really happened.

It is an ok book but I didn’t love it. I would have to call this a historical fiction book since this is solely based in eye witness accounts.
