As someone who loved the Tattooist of Auschwitz, I was really excited to pick up another book about the same time period and by the same author. Morris does a truly fantastic job of writing in a way that is both stark and emotional. The writing is not overly flowery or descriptive but it is not dry or boring either. It is incredibly easy to connect to the characters within the book. I really enjoyed getting to learn about Cilka's story and the trials that she faced. Her resilience and determination truly stood out through the narrative voice given to her. If you are a fan of World War Two historical fiction stories or just a fan of powerful novels, this is one that I can highly recommend picking up.
