This is a sequel, or spin-off to the Tattooist of Auschwitz (the debut novel by Heather Morris). We met Cilka in the first book, but in this newest novel, we get to uncover the full story of Cilka's Journey, both physical and literal.⁣

Without giving too many spoilers away, I will say that the research that went into this novel is incredible. I am so grateful that the author includes a very detailed report of her research at the end as it sheds clarity on how much of the information in this book was fact and how much was fiction. Historical fiction is one of my favorite genres, but this is one of the most comprehensive and transparent epilogues outlining all the details. ⁣

This book is heartbreaking, hopeful and inspiring. It sheds light on the conditions of the Russian work camps post-WW2 as well as the guilt that many Holocaust survivors felt. We get to know a cast of characters really well - some that frustrate and some that inspire - but all of them pull us deeply into this story that you will not want to put down until you know how it ends.⁣

Cilka is someone that I would have loved to have meet in person. Her resiliency, strength and perseverance are incredible. If you were captured by The Tattoist of Auschitz's true story, then you will want to get your copy on 𝐎𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐛𝐞𝐫 𝟏𝐬𝐭 𝐰𝐡𝐞𝐧 𝐢𝐭 𝐫𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐬𝐞𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐩𝐮𝐛𝐥𝐢𝐜.⁣
