Thank you St.Martin’s Press for sending me an arc through a goodreads giveaway! I joined a buddy read to read this and was a little behind but easily caught up. I caught up and then decided I wanted to finish the book, oops. I read it in one sitting.

This book was so powerful and emotional. I lost track of how many times I cried. We follow Cilka on her journey through Aushwitz-Birkenau Concentration Camp and from then we follow her to a Siberian prison camp.

It would be hard to live through these experiences. Cilka does what she has to do to survive and I think she feels guilty. She shouldn't because who knows how you would act and what you would do in a situation like this.

“From child to woman, from woman to healer, Cilka’s journey illuminated the resilience of the human spirit — and the will we have to survive.”
