What I like about this sample is how touching it is. Cilka is a young girl when she first arrives in Auschwitz. She is being forced to prostitute herself to the Germans, which the Russians later see as a form of collaboration with the enemy. It is very hard to understand what so many people had to go through in these days.
I would love to read the full story. I grew up in Germany with part of my family being Jewish and having lost many of them in the Holocaust. Visiting concentration camps is part of the German school education, and every time I went, I was especially touched by the fate of the women being forced to give their body to experiments or sex work. I believe this book is something very special, and although widely fictional, tells a story that could have happened to any woman back then.
