Though I have read such a large number of books about World War II, this story feels fresh and important as part of the ever-growing canon. I am so fascinated by the concept of being punished for having been abused and assaulted by the Germans during imprisonment, and I think that the themes of how we blame victims and avoid the truth about abuse are extremely timely and relevant today.
