In this sneak peek, we are introduced to Cilka, or Cecilia, a woman who has been "freed" from Auschwitz only to be accused of prostituting herself to the Nazis. The author does an excellent job showing the conflict with Cilka as she tries to express that she had no choice in the matter and does not want to continue being imprisoned for what she had to do to survive Auschwitz when so many did not. I can see that this book is going to be emotionally difficult but it is well written enough that the pages just slip by. I personally don't think I could handle what will surely be scenes of sexual violence though.
