I don't have the right words for my feelings about this First Impression. The content hurts. It's emotional and intense and horrific. But there's also an undercurrent of hope, with this young woman, not much more than a girl, who has strength, courage, and resilience in conditions most of us, thankfully, can't even begin to fathom. The writing is beautiful. In fact, I didn't feel the author's presence at all. I was right there, with Cilka, experiencing her world. This is a book that needs to be read, because Cilka and all the women like her deserve our attention.
