The tone of the opening intrigues me... it reads somewhat informational, like nonfiction, and is written very straightforwardly. It reads as if it's a memoir with a voice that feels uniquely informational for a novel. I really enjoy historical fiction and am drawn in by the fact that this is fiction based on a true account.
