This moving cover with its concentration camp prisoner stripes and lonely girl image creates immediate appeal. I suspect that this book will take us back to Auschwitz-Birkenau and we will learn more of her abuse and subsequent protection by Schwarzhuber. Will we see Gita and Lale again as we do in this preview? And then we will learn about her treatment in the Siberian prisoner camp and how she manages to survive. As this is based on a real person, I'm optimistic on the eventual outcome but this appears to be a harrowing journey. I have read many books that show the horrors of WWII. This follow-up to a book I loved appears to show a different perspective to the story and aftermath of the war which I look forward to reading. One can only hope that love and a happy life is ahead for Cilka.
