This was a lovely story told mostly in flashbacks as our heroine lies in a coma. I know, that sounds trite, but wait. She was a newspaper columnist in a small town, and within her column and around it, all the drama of the town played out, including of course affairs, secrets and her own love story. She fights curmudgeons and bumps her head against the glass ceiling before she even knew what that was. It is by turns funny and heartbreaking, and you will be rooting for her! There are even recipes. No one does wry humor better than Landvik, and this title is no exception. But don't ask me how she got inside the head of a 12 year old boy, who is perhaps one of the strongest characters. Just so well done. If you've never read Lorna Landvik, this is a great place to start.
