I enjoyed the premise of Chronicles of a Radical Hag (with Recipes), especially the interesting mix of characters and the newspaper setting. Small-town local columnist Haze Evans lies ill in the hospital, and her co-workers, family, and friends recall her interesting life as the paper runs her previous columns.

It seems that everyone in town was touched by her actions throughout her life, and she recounted many crucial events in the world and made them feel close by relating them to her small-town life. It reminded me a little of Forest Gump in the placement of the main character at so many tide-turning historical moments.

Overall, it was an enjoyable book. I found the addition of recipes, which were main baked goods, to be sweet but not very necessary for the story line.
