Charming Small Town Characters
Haze Evans seems like quite a feisty, quirky, and fun old gal! The use of the editorial letter informing readers that she has suffered a stroke is an interesting setup. I love the idea of learning more about this woman through her own words and stories.
While the writing style feels a bit old-fashioned, the characters and the setting add just enough sweetness to overcome the straight forward prose. There is a lot of small town charm presented in the cast of characters. I especially liked Susan McGrath and her reverence for the newspaper's matriarchal columnist of sorts.
