I can't tell if Haze is pretentious, silly or somewhat vapid. Maybe she transitions from somewhat vapid and silly to pretentious by the time she's in her eighties and her newspaper comes up with the brilliant idea to rerun columns from her earlier years in her career. Maybe it's because I've never lived in a small town and had the fascination with every little small town detail that her "articles" don't appeal to me. I also don't understand the random interspersion of Shelly's perspective on her husband leaving her and cutting up random pictures and placing them on pictures of her and her husband. It seems totally random.
