Very cute read!
This was a very cute and fun read about the world of chess!
The book is told from one point-of-view and it comes from Mallory Greenleaf. She grew up learning about chess as her dad was playing the game professionally. It was something she enjoyed doing until her dad died and she left the game behind. It was interesting to understand her feelings towards the game throughout the book and learning to deal with her past and understanding that she could enjoy it and help her family. She carried the world on her shoulder and felt like she needed to be the mom for her sisters. i could understand that feeling since I definitely mothered my siblings, haha. They hated me for it and so what Mallory dealt with when it came to her siblings hit home.
I know nothing about chess and the times that I have played I have lost, haha. It is cool that there is so much involved with the game. There are a lot of steps and plays that can happen and it definitely is a mind game. I liked learning more about it in this book and gave me a bigger respect for the game.
The romance between her and Nolan was sweet. It starts out as enemies-to-lovers, more so on one side, and grows to be way more than that. The moments between them were good and full of banter! It was everything that I like in a romance. I am glad we got an epilogue about them and it was written in such a unique way too.
Overall, this was an enjoyable read!
