The main character of this book Check and amate, Mallory Greenleaf, feels that she doesn’t want to do chess anymore. Chess had led to the destruction of her family four years earlier, her focus is on her family and the job that helps her with the bills. But then she agrees to play in one last tournament with Nolan Sawyer. Losing to an unknown rookie is so surprising to everyone. It is so weird, but he wants to play against her again! So obviously he likes her and then eventually she will like him too. Mallory doesn’t know what she is walking into. But her victory helps her to win prizes like money which she really needs for her family and so she needs to keep playing.
She really loves the game so much but she doesn’t know what will happen to her and her family. She realizes that the games aren’t only on the board, but in real life as well. This was an okay read but for people who like the author and the game of chess they will definitely love it!
