Hazelwood does it again! I loved this venture into more new adult (I know this book is billed as YA but please check the steam and content level) genre of storytelling.
The MCs are both so wonderful in different ways and who knew the world of chess could be so interesting! Watching the two MCs battle both on the board and slowly grow closer over the course of the book was a delight. The side characters were fantastic and the villain was so realistic, he gave me the creeps. I did struggle a big with the FMCs family, but that was down to good writing. I just wanted them to support the FMC and I got so frustrated on her behalf.
The audio is also fantastic, the narrator does a great job with a lot of different characters!
If you didn't enjoy Hazelwoods other books I don't think this one will be much different but if you are a fan of her writing I can safely say you're in for a treat!
