I already knew this one was going to be good because I read The Love Hypothesis back in 2021. I actually prefer younger adult romance to adult(although the demisexual representation helps a lot), so I was super excited to hear that Ali Hazelwood had a young adult book! I was also getting a bit tired of all the science adult romcoms, it started feeling like the same thing, so a book about chess was a nice and unique change. I learned a lot about it and it's something else we need to see women represented in more! I tried watching queen's gambit awhile ago and was kinda bored, but I was not bored reading about chess. This also had one of my favorite tropes, rivals to lovers. I really liked the romance and there's also queer representation in this one. I really hope she writes more young adult books, I actually liked this better than her adult ones.
