An Enjoyable read
This book, while having a few things that kept it from being wholly amazing to me, did have a relatively sweet story & ending. I thought the romance was cute and sweet. (And at times extremely funny. It was definitely an entertaining rivals to lovers book.)
The chess competition plot was interesting and engaging to me, even knowing almost nothing about Chess.
The supporting characters were all incorporated into the story flawlessly. Sometimes I feel like the main characters feel like real people and the rest feel like cardboard people only there for an excuse of a reason to move the story forward.
This book is closed door, but I did feel like it was written for a more mature audience and then edited to fit properly into YA. Which I suppose is better than just leaving it in. But it did make the romantic scenes awkward and choppy. Overall I would recommend!
