Ali Hazelwood is an amazing author to turn to when needing good romance. So far this seems to lean more on the YA side. I loved this little first look and couldn't stop laughing. These characters are funny and relatable which is something I look forwards to when reading. This new chess based romance follows Mallory and Nolan. Two chess rivals. Wow! I love to see new stuff, and this was the thing I needed to read. This story shows why Mallory quits playing chess at 14 and then picks up around the time she is 18. Mallory is taking care of her two sisters and her mother, who has an illness. Her best friend convinces her to go to a charity chess tournament, where the best chess player, Nolan, will be playing. Mallory ends up playing Nolan in a chess game, and WINS!!!! Mallory starts to get back into chess while figuring out her love for chess and her attraction to Nolan. Ali Hazelwood always delivers with her romance books. This is a YA romance which is also slow burn!!!
