Ali Hazelwood really hooked me with that last line of the opening chapter! Mallory, with her relatable awkwardness and undeniable chess skills, won me over immediately. I really feel for her family situation, and am curious about what exactly happened with her father, but mostly I'm rooting for her to find joy in playing chess again. Nolan's a really appealing character as well, and I'm excited to see them meet again. The cover seems pretty fitting, with its chess emphasis!
