The prologue started off humorous, I can already tell that Mallory is going to be a quirky female main character who I will inevitably identify with. The next few chapters are also very well-written and do a great job of establishing Mallory's character. The chess match with Nolan in Chapter 3 was exciting and gives a good sense of atmosphere and what was happening. I was on the edge asking myself what he was going to do once she beat him, only for her to cut him off and run away. Was he going to throw a tantrum like he did in previous matches or would he have congratulated her on her skills? All in all, I would definitely love to read the rest of this novel, I'm always up for a good slow burn. However, if I was going through books at Barnes and Noble and stumbled upon it, I wouldn't have gotten it due to the cover. I know, I know, don't judge a book by its cover, but everyone always does anyway!
