I LOVED The Love Hypothesis, and since then, I have made a point to read Ali's books and novellas. Although her novellas were almost too fast-paced and missed the build-up that TLH had to make it great, they were quick, fun reads.
I love that Ali makes a point to have her characters be smart and that intelligence is what brings her characters together. I also really just love a split perspective novel, which is a theme that Ali's novels tend to have. I do wonder if she's kept to her theme of a quirky female lead and a brooding male lead with intense sexual chemistry. I would be open to a change, but I understand the niche.
All in all, Check & Mate is giving major Queen's Gambit vibes and I am here. for. it. Although I am not really a fan of her covers, they are uniquely her so I look past it.
