Chain of Gold is the start of a new fantasy series, but part of Cassandra Clare's Shadowhunter world. It's set in the early 1900s of London.

This novel is about the children of the characters from The Infernal Devices series, so you may want to read that first otherwise there will be several spoilers for that trilogy.

The writing is immersive and intriguing. Cassandra Clare is a master at description and makes everything appear so vivid. Her characters are extremely well-developed and complex with understandable, lovable flaws that make it impossible not to love them.

The plot is dynamic and fast-paced as always. We get to still see old characters from other series' like Magnus Bane, Malcolm Fade, and Tessa Gray, so that is interesting as well.

One thing I especially love about Cassandra Clare's books are her entirely unexpected and downright evil plot twists that will wrench your heart in a million different directions.

Overall, this book was an absolute pleasure to read and I'm sure the next ones will be as well!
