I have read other books by this author and this one seems to be coming along as a new and classic addition to the series. We are introduced in the beginning to Luice Herondale. Just as you begin your journey into the book it grips you with the concept of mystery. There’s also some nostalgia for readers of the Infernal Devices series.

James from first impressions does seem like the sort of trickster brother, but at the same time he wouldn’t let his sister get hurt despite willing to do some tricks or make her uneasy at times. As this book is set within the pas let around the late 1800s and early 1900s I believe the beginning of this book really gives us a glimpse into that world even when comparing it against other books from sag the infernal devices series. There the time period was well formed and although not too much has changed in the time period transition to Chain of Gold, I can see the small nods to history in the book.
