In this first book of a new Shadowhunters trilogy, it’s hard to not immediately fall in love with the introduced characters. With the familiar Herondales, Carstairs, and Fairchild families, the famous bloodlines are seen again in Chain of Gold. Cordelia Carstairs, James Herondale, and Matthew Fairchild each keep the story riveting as the mystery unfolds with this new storyline. It’s heartwarming to see Tessa and Will as loving parents and how the strength of family bonds them together even more.
I immediately found myself cheering for James and Cordelia, and hoped that Grace and her manipulation were overcome so the two can be together. The sort of cliffhanger at the end of the novel left me wanting to read the next book immediately to see how the events unfold. With such a strong cast of beautifully developed characters, it seems that this book can do no wrong.
