In my opinion, this is the best book that Cassandra Clare has written so far. You are able to see how she has grown as an author and it is especially apparent in the characters. Chain of Gold follows Cordelia Carstairs, a Shadowhunter, as she moves to London and strives to uncover a hidden evil.
All of the characters in this book were so fleshed out! You can see the motivations from even the worst of the characters, and I was able to sympathize with nearly every single one of them.
This book is perfectly set up for the sequel, and I cannot believe I still have to wait three months for it! I cannot wait to learn more about the story and to be immersed in the world once again.
For a companion series, this didn’t feel like an after thought. The plot was still there and it could stand on its own. The only problem I had was keeping the characters straight in the beginning.
