Rich World building In a few short pages
Honestly, if I were judging a book by its cover I probably would not have picked this up to begin with.
I love large casts of characters and within these few pages I'm already interested in what they'll all be up to. I'm not usually a fan of fantasy that makes me learn a new language in order to follow, but I also really appreciate that this takes place in an England that seems to mostly be similar to ours so I don't have to memorize new geography as well. The dialog flows well, if a little formal, and just YA enough to be easy to read without feeling juvenile.
