I've never been a huge fan of the Shadowhunters books. Partly that's because of my age (I'm old enough that I was in the online HP fandom when the whole Draco Trilogy scandal happened), and partly that just because I've never been been a huge fan of paranormal romance. That being said, I did read them (well most of them, I drifted away sometime during the fourth series), and of the ones I read, the historical stuff has always been my favorite. This is likely largely because it is in the historical stuff that Clare is at her most original. (No matter how hard she tries to hide it, the modern day stuff still reads like the HP fanfic it began its life as.) The past is where she truly shines, and if this new trilogy is returning to this era, then it looks like the series has drawn this reader back in.
