I'm a simple person so if I see Cassandra Clare's name on the book I read it! I do not always love everything she writes but the percentage is high enough that she will always be a must read author for me.
The Shadowhunter world is a complex world but you can definitely choose Chain of Gold as your first foray into that world and not feel confused or left out. I especially like how characters from past books make a cameo in this one.
