This was my first time reading anything by Claire and it was fine. Fairly easy to understand demon hunter rules, a lot of exposition and side tangents to get the newbie reader, like myself, caught up. Neither James nor Lucie or any of their friends really jumped out at me as stand-out characters. Obviously fans of the series will love it, but it just seemed ok as an outsider.
