I’ve been excited for this book for months, it’s in my all time favorite literary universe, so why wouldn’t I be excited? I became more interested reading the short stories about the characters in Cassie Clare’s companion novels (Bane Chronicles, Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy, and Ghosts of the Shadowmarket). Having read the first look I’m now attached to the characters.
For me the first chapter of a book is very telling, I’m either engaged with the characters or I’m not, and that will determine often if I finish the book. Prior to reading this first look, I was attached to James(I loved the Midnight Heir, plus I have a soft spot for Herondales). After reading the sneak peak, I’m fascinated by Lucie. She had seemed like a little sister character to me, almost like Max was in The Mortal Instruments. Now I’m so excited to see her story. More so than even Tessa, Lucie is the fangirl in all of us booknerds ! She’s a hopeless romantic that sees the world in stories and possibilities. And I’m excited for our first look at a female parabatai pair! Cordelia definitely reminds me of Emma (and not just because of the sword!).
I’m counting down the days til I get to read Chain of Gold and this first look has made it both harder (I have to wait a month to find out what happens!) and a much more exciting month!
