I was not prepared to love 'Casalvento' as much as did. In fact, I cried at the end and books very rarely move me to tears. I was first drawn to the book by the cover art and name which reminded me of a long ago favorite, 'Cashelmara' by Susan Howatch. The storyline in 'Casalvento' unfolded as I anticipated, but kept me highly engaged and anxious to pick the book back up from beginning to end. I might have known the ending was going to sneak up on me, but just wow. I truly loved all the characters from Erika, Santo and Paola to Franco and Vincenzo. I was also enthralled to note that the book is based on Gudrun Cuillo's passions in life. I am not a wine connoisseur, am not Italian and haven't been to Italy but I would love to go and see the country and will try some of the recipes! Thanks to BookishFirst and Greenleaf Book Group for getting a copy in my hand. I loved it! 5 Stars!
