How do you have a romance when the people involved don't act romantic? I guess, like this book did, you have the woman fall in love with the location.
Erika has her life all planned. She has her own business. She has a fiance she will be marrying in the fall. He has a controlling mother that expects after the wedding, Erika will shut down her business, pump out two adorable children and settle into the high society matron lifestyle her new husband deserves. Erika has no intention of doing any of that, but she believes she can handle her mother-in-law.
Into her plans comes a will and inheritance from a grandfather she knew nothing about. The inheritance is in Italy. She thinks she'll pop over, check things out, clean up anything that needs cleaning and sell everything. She gets there and learns the terms of the will means she must live there for five months before she can sell. Well, she can do that and still be back in time for the wedding.
It seems that her fiance is lukewarm about the five months. During the first couple of weeks that she is Italy, he only calls her once. When she calls him, she is just as likely to get his voicemail. He says it's because he's working an important deal. She has to come home to pick up some more clothes. When she gets to their apartment, she finds another woman's things. That, for her, breaks the engagement. She feels free for the first time in a long time.
This is a very long slow burn romance. I almost thought it was more a woman's fiction, full of feelings and learning about yourself. Still, I liked it. It was different from the things I usually read. I say, go for it. You might like it.
