Joe Green returns home for a few days to visit his parents. His father has symptoms of Alzheimer's and his mother is wasting away from constant worry and care. Joe has memories of his childhood, growing up in the same house his parents still live in. His father's memories are from the past, as he can't remember current events. His mother has made adjustments to ensure her husband's safety--buying a special fishing vest and installing keyed locks on all the doors, but when Joe goes into the garage to retrieve the vest, memories of a gun secretly kept by his father resurface, and Joe searches the old hiding place, then all around the garage--inside and outside--to no avail. The gun is missing.

Adult children returning home to visit aging parents, the physical toll on caregivers, those with memory problems, and a mystery---all topical themes that promise a rewarding read.
