Carolina Moonset by Matt Goldman, is an engaging mystery. The characters are well-developed and likable. I found the interactions between father and son to be particularly touching, and the dialogue between the characters was authentic and relatable. I enjoyed the beautiful, atmospheric, descriptions of the setting, Beaufort, South Carolina. I love when a location becomes a character in a novel! Joey Green has come to visit his parents, and provide his mom with a well-deserved rest. She is the sole care-giver to his dad who is suffering from Lewy Body Dementia. His dad has no short term memory, but has a reliable long term memory, a blessing for the moment, because he recognizes his family. However, memories from his past are resurfacing, and secrets are coming into the light. The story held my interest from page 1. I wish the author had chosen to forego the romantic storyline; the story didn’t require it, but regardless, it is still a book I would recommend.
