What first intrigued me to read the excerpt of "Carolina Moonset" by Matt Goldman, was the book cover. The artwork pulled me in. I was fascinated by the inviting home in the background, yet darkness looms overhead.
The first 17 pages are beautifully written by Mr. Goldman. One of the main characters, Joey Green, returns home to Beaufort, South Carolina to spend some quality time with his father, who is suffering from Lewy Body Dementia (his long-term memory is intact. However, his short-term memory is pretty much nonexistent).
As Joey is getting ready for a fishing trip with his father, he remembers a pistol that his father kept in his fishing tackle box. The pistol was a secret between him and his father. He searches, but is unable to locate the pistol. Where is the pistol and how will its disappearance affect the direction of this story?
