Adult Child's Touching Descriptions Are Promising
I wish I could describe adequately how lovely the writing is in this book. The narrator, Joey, is the adult child of a man, a retired doctor, with dementia. And Joey's descriptions of his father and his tired, worn-out mother are not only touching; they're true. I know because I, too, have a parent with dementia. Although it's not exactly the same type, the feelings toward my parent sound the same. Only I couldn't put it so well.
Even better, this excerpt seems to be background for the story to come. I anticipate something suspenseful, maybe something having to do with Joey's careful description of locked doors. Maybe not. But isn't that what the best books do, cause anticipation?
