Set in the fall of 1957, Cape May follows young, naive, virginal newlyweds Effie and Henry as they embark on their honeymoon in Cape May, New Jersey. The town is nothing like Effie remembers, however, since she usually visits in the busy summer season. Since so many stores and restaurants are closed, they have decided to cut their honeymoon short only to run into Effie's childhood acquaintance, Clara, who is married to much older Richard but having an affair with young, lithe Max. Effie never liked Clara very much but since she and Henry are already bored with each other, they are quickly drawn in by her wealth, parties, and excessive drinking. How will their behavior over the next week set the tone for their entire marriage?

Sooooo, let me start by saying that I would prefer not to write any negative reviews (which is good since I don't read many bad books), but this time, I must since I don't have anything positive to say about this book. I found it disgusting, demeaning, and disrespectful to men and women alike, a complete waste of my time, and lastly, it was definitely not "erotic" as the description states. A true sexual awakening between the newlyweds would have had substance and depth, but the fact that Henry was cheating on his wife with Max's sister, Alma, just TWO weeks into their marriage—after while they are on their honeymoon!—was a huge turnoff. The sex scenes were abundant, gratuitous, unappealing, and evoked no emotion whatsoever. In fact, the only emotion I felt while reading this book was anger. I'd like to say that the ending made it worth my time, but alas, it was even more sad and depressing than the rest of the book. Do yourself a favor and skip this one.

Location: Cape May, New Jersey

I received an advance copy of this book from BookishFirst, and frankly, I'm appalled that they offered it! All opinions are my own. Obviously.
