Initially in reading this story, I felt excited to begin it. I enjoyed the premise, thinking that this would be very "Gatsby" mixed with a Paula Hawkins thriller. I felt that with the suspense and the lack of details, this would have a better payoff. Unfortunately, I was hoping for more excitement than I received. I felt the characters were not as interesting as I would have hoped.
I felt the mysteries inside this novel were interesting, but this novel was not as great as I had anticipated. The flowery but rough writing style was interesting, but at times it felt very dry and tiring, like certain books by Stephen King.
I would be interested to see how Chip Creek writes future novels, but this one wasn't a new favorite.
