I very much enjoyed this tale of innocence lost and repercussions of human behavior. October 1957: Henry and Effie are two young Southerners on their honeymoon in quiet off-season Cape May, NJ. They meet brassy New Yorker Clara, a childhood acquaintance of Effie’s who has plenty of money and lots of (shall we say) "interesting" friends. The clash of cultures is a bit stereotypical at times, and you can kinda figure out where things are going, but the dialogue is fantastic and there are some unexpected twists and turns. I felt like I got an idea of what the era might have been like in the time when the Beat generation was coming into adulthood -- Henry and Effie are about the same age as my parents would have been then, so that was of interest to me. If you like reading about relationships, this might be one to consider. It was a quick read for me (read it in an afternoon, four hours or less) and different from what I've been reading lately, so it was a nice break. Thank you, Bookish First and Celadon for the opportunity to review Cape May before the publication date.
