I didn’t really know what I was getting myself into with this one. Set in the late 1950’s, a young couple travel from their southern Georgia home to a New Jersey resort town during the off season for their honeymoon. After the novelty of being married wears off, they aren’t quite sure what to do with each other in this deserted place. When they encounter a glamorous Gatsby-esque crowd, their simple existence becomes soaked with booze, decadence and adventure along with unexpected obsessions and passions. I expected a bit o’ sexy talk, but my goodness! This was a bit racier than I expected. As this new couple loses their innocence, the choices they make will have lifelong repercussions on their life together. I had mixed feelings about the ending. After the slow pacing of a few weeks of their lives, it seemed a bit off to wrap things up with a chapter on how the rest of their lives went. It perhaps tied it up a little too neatly.
