This is a romance novel based in the 1950s, about a newly married couple on their honeymoon. They travel to Cape May New Jersey on the off season, and the story starts off in a somewhat dull manor, but picks up quickly when the couple meets the neighbors who seem to be from a different world. These neighbors are New Yorker types -- fueled by money, gin, and sex. The couple gets swept into all of their drama, mystery and parties. The story reminded me of The Great Gatsby, but much more real and salty. I could do without some of the sexual descriptions, but I think the writing was done extremely well and kept me wanting to know more. Eventually, the couple is swept up into adultery and betrayal. The story ends with a description of how the couple aged, their marriage going forward until the wife's death. I very much enjoyed this book and hope that others read it!
