This book was really not my cup of tea, but if the synopsis sounds like something that would normally interest you, I wouldn't discourage you from giving it a go. The book is full of Gatsby-style Americana and marital issues that were incredibly grating for me to read about as a gay teenager. I think I would have enjoyed a film version of this same story, but the writing style contained within is overly self-conscious and seemed to drag on forever, making it a chore to read, especially at the start. This is a book that was written for adults with a 401k who get into petty spats with their friends over party invitations, or for suburban moms who wear pearl bracelets and typically only read glossy pop psychology and memoir new releases. Probably would not want to read anything else by this author in the future given that I am not at all the target audience.
