"Happy families are not all alike," counsels a woman with a different lifestyle, and this novel will make readers stop and think about the pursuit of happiness.
Life has a lot of learning moments and challenges, but young newlyweds Henry and Effie have no idea that their awkward start to a honeymoon is about to become so twisted and convoluted that their lives might be changed forever. Coming from a small Southern town without a lot of life experience, they simply are not prepared for the subtle web that is pulling them in to new situations, especially since their new friends seem intent on alcohol-fueled destruction. Get ready to sit up late and continue reading. Yes, this book does have some scenes of detailed sexual intimacy. While that may not sound appealing to some readers, author Chip Cheek uses his prose to capture the emotional upheavals of his characters. His words create the emotional train wreck of lives as vividly as any scene in the 1987 thriller movie 'Fatal Attraction.'
By the end of the novel, I knew I was not hesitating to rate it as 5 stars. Thank you Celadon Books and Bookish for my ARC.
