This is the end of innocence
It is 1957. Effie is 18 and her new husband Henry is 20. Virgins, as far as he knows, on their honeymoon in Cape May. The writing is a bit slow but perhaps it is more foreboding as Mr. Cheek establishes his two young protagonists as truly sweet and innocent; prime fodder for Clara and her sophisticated cohorts who invade Cape May halfway through Effie and Henry's honeymoon.
PS - I much prefer the Australian cover.
